Together for the Forest: Highlights from our “Volunteer Days”
Over the past few months, volunteers have taken part in our “Volunteer Days” program, offering their time and energy to support a variety of tasks at our nursery in the Mt. Hymettus Aesthetic Forest.
Through simple yet important actions – clearing weeds, digging, and relocating plants – they helped improve the nursery’s overall condition, aiming to enhance sunlight exposure, airflow, accessibility, and watering efficiency. All these interventions share a common goal: to help the plants already growing there thrive, and to prepare the space to welcome new ones.
The Philodassiki nursery has operated for decades as a space for cultivating and propagating plants, which are later used to enrich the Aesthetic Forest and the Botanical Garden, whenever is needed. In fact, some of the trees tended to by our volunteers have already been transplanted to selected areas of the forest as part of ongoing ecological maintenance and renewal efforts*.
Thank you
We sincerely thank every volunteer for their contribution – through actions that have a meaningful and long-term impact on the protection and conservation of the forest. The stewardship of the Aesthetic Forest continues steadily, always with respect for its natural character.
*New Plantings
Following the removal of dry trees in the area surrounding the Kaisariani Monastery and the Taxiarches Hill, we carried out selective plantings of young trees. These new trees were transplanted with care and form part of a broader strategy of restorative interventions aimed at maintaining the ecological balance and health of the Aesthetic Forest.
